Queens and Nassau County
Since 2022, I have served the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock as a contract minister with a broad portfolio that supports the ministry of our Lead Minister Rev. Dr. Natalie Fenimore. I came to New York City to be closer to my mother during the last months of her life, and to be closer to my Rhode Island (and Massachusetts and Maine) family, and to work with the person I most admire in Unitarian Universalism. I am given opportunities to preach, teach and counsel as well as to encourage parts of this diverse congregation in an enormous and sometimes “siloed” campus to develop relationships with one another and to build trust across division.
I am the Associate Minister for Congregational Life. I lead our Soulful Sundown religious services with featured musical artists. I relate to our Caring Committee and encourage our professional and lay chaplains and pastoral visitors. I maintain a Labyrinth practice both indoors and out on the grounds we steward. I convene a group exploring earth-based traditions. I share some of our public ministry in ways that support our professional social justice coordinator and our members. And I am blessed to preach each month and there to accompany a rich music ministry of professional and amateur musicians. I sometimes have been known to say that “I am the luckiest minister in captivity.”
